Research

I am interested in the area of oral, maxillofacial and ENT pathology. My research interest includes neoplastic diseases of salivary glands and carcinoma of the upper aerodigestive tract. Identifiable morphologic and biochemical parameters are used for better understanding of the histogenesis and prediction of the biologic behavior of these tumors.

I also collaborate with other investigators at Washington University Medical Center, particularly in the Department of Otolaryngology. The following are examples of some ongoing projects: 1) development and improvement of middle ear implants, 2) identification of allelic loss in supraglotic carcinoma and its role in lymph node metastasis and treatment failure, 3) clinical and pathologic correlations of metalloproteinases in squamous cell carcinoma of the pharynx, 4) the significance of P53 gene mutations in radiation failure for glottic carcinoma, and 5) Bcl-2 expression in glottic squamous cell carcinoma (prognostic significance).
